From Dusk to Dawn
The History of the T.O.B.
Back in 1993, I was illustrating a book called [translated] "Too Many Rabbits." I won't get into the contents of that story, except to say that I drew a lot of bunnies. By the time the artwork was completed, I was starting to see bunnies everywhere. It was like the imprints of the pictures were burned into my brain. They even invaded my dreams. It was as though the rabbits were taunting me. I began to identify them as evil beings. I tried to rid my life of these infernal beasts, uttering curses at anyone that even mentioned them. Of course, these little creatures are immensely popular, so I failed miserably. From there, an idea developed about a diabolic rabbit god, and in 1995, I started writing about Baalzebunny. My apathy towards his minions began to diminish. He was to begin his reign over the earthly realm during Easter. I related this to some of my friends. It was a tale of death, and destruction, which I wanted to capture in the form of a single issue comic book. The apocalypse would start on Easter. The story was finished, yet somehow it seemed incomplete. My plans to illustrate it were put on hold. Although the name of Baalzebunny lived on, it wasn't until 1999, that I began to contemplate these matters further. It was all because of my wife, Michelle, who suggested having an "evil bunny party." We wanted to have a party on Good Friday, but didn't want it to be an Easter celebration. Suddenly, it all began to make sense. This was no coincidence. This holiday was going to be ours, and it was time to start the Easter Rising! Baalzebunny was to claim his throne, as the Antichrist. I quickly went to work on the '1st Annual Rabbit Sabbath.' During the same time, I was already exploring the Satanic works of Anton Szandor Lavey. His books inspired me to reconsider the nature of Baalzebunny. The meaning continued to unfolded itself to me, and the 'Temple of Baalzebunny' was created. As time went on, the ideas evolved into something greater. It is time to rise, with eyes wide open. With the dawn comes a new beginning. -Hare Mengele |
